CANDIDATE STATEMENT (2015)

As the mother of three children and a very active volunteer in our schools and community for over thirteen years,  I believe I am uniquely qualified to serve on our school board.  I am a regular attendee at school board general and committee meetings and have extensive insight into the history of school board decisions. Additionally, I have been called upon to serve on school board ad hoc committees and my opinion is frequently sought in connection with matters to be decided and/or being considered by our school board and/or administration.  

I have outstanding communication skills, a keen ability to keep groups focused on the issues at hand, and proven ability to build consensus.  These have been a hallmark of my involvement with the school board for many years and the reason I have been able to advocate successfully for all our students. Our main concern in the district should be providing our students with a quality education, building their character and giving them the tools that they will need to compete in our global economy while becoming productive future members of our society. Working together with school board members, administration and parent organizations is the key to successfully reaching these goals.  My knowledge, personality, dedication, and principled nature are strengths which will benefit our students and our community.

I believe we have tough decisions ahead including : managing the shrinking state/federal funding, budget cuts, maintenance issues, space limitations, and more. Maintaining a low tax rate while sustaining high academic standards and ensuring our curriculum is rigorous and meets the needs of all our students will be our challenge.  There will be difficult decisions to be made in the years to come.  I am prepared to conscientiously examine all sides of the issues, listen to the concerns of all those involved and make prudent decisions for the long-term good of our district.   I will faithfully and diligently serve Peters Township as a School Board Director and I ask for your vote on May 19th.
